The End of an Age

The version history of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas is so interesting, as the subtle changes between Judy Garland’s version in the original film Meet Me in St Louis, and Frank Sinatra’s 1957 cover profoundly change how we interpret the song. Both of which being further divorced from the especially sad lyrics that Hugh Martin originally wanted, likely because of how they would resonate with audiences in World War II (the way the song ended up doing anyways) #greenscreen #haveyourselfame
