Earlier this year we had shared the news that Rite Aid was closing their distribution center in Liverpool after filing for another bankruptcy. They have now closed all their stores. Their CNY warehouse had been home for Fay’s, Eckerd, and then Rite Aid since it opened in 1978. At its peak, the building housed more than 600 Fay’s employees serving 270 discount drug stores - almost all in New York and Pennsylvania with a high percentage within 150 miles of this warehouse. The iconic, neon “Syracuse” sign that had hung at Hancock International Airport was taken down in 2016 and replaced with a similar style LED upgrade. Since then, the older sign has been in storage and I spotted it on a past tour at Allied Sign Company. It’s owned by the City and they have mentioned wanting to put it to use. U.S. Marine Jacob Everett returned home at the Syracuse Airport today, Nov. 17, and popped the question to his girlfriend Catherine Beamish from Baldwinsville. Jacob got the answer he dreamed of. They will be moving in together in Rochester as Catherine is heading to medical school, and Jacob is going to become a music teacher. | NewsChannel 9
